Why this exists

You record a clip on your phone, try to upload it to WhatsApp, and the message bounces because it's over the 16 MB cap. Every "video compressor online" result wants you to upload your file to their server. JustVid does the compression in your browser; the file never leaves your device.

How it works

JustVid lazy-loads the open-source ffmpeg.wasm engine (~30 MB) on first use and caches it. Every transcode runs in a Web Worker on your machine. The page makes zero network calls with your data after the engine is loaded.

Trade-offs

Browser ffmpeg is 5–10× slower than the native binary. A 30-second clip takes 30–90 seconds on a typical laptop. Files over ~100 MB may hit browser memory ceilings, especially on iOS Safari. For very large files, native tools like HandBrake or ffmpeg CLI are still better. We trade speed and ceiling for privacy.

Privacy

We do not track you. No Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no fingerprinting. Cloudflare sees standard request logs the way every site does; we do not export, sell, or analyse them. Your video data never leaves your device.
